It’s Wednesday.
March 3, 2009 – 9:00 pmActually – it’s only Tuesday. That pretty much sums up how busy I am these days! I have a list of bugs I’m working on for Prospects 1.2.4, which I am hoping to release within the next 10 days or so. If you experience a crash, the best thing you can do is to submit the crash report when the window pops up – but even more importantly, fill out a brief summary of what you were doing at the time. Without that extra information, it is very difficult to determine what is causing a crash.
In the meantime, I am also working on Prospects 1.3. I’ve reworked the category panel so you can now edit everything directly in the panel – including the color. It is much faster and you can do a better job of assigning colors. You can now also double-click QIF, OFX/QFX files to open them directly in Prospects. This comes in handy since you can also associate these files to open automatically in Prospects in Mac OS X. This means that after you download it from your bank’s website in the browser of your choice, it can automatically open in Prospects and it begins the import process. I know this should have been there from the beginning, but it’s finally coming in 1.3!
I’ve just begun work on the ability to merge two transactions (presumably duplicates) via drag and drop. I have some more things I’d like to implement using drag and drop, but this may be the only piece that gets into 1.3 to ensure it gets out in a reasonable time frame.
I have a long list of additional enhancements coming in 1.3 that I will be discussing over the coming weeks. The focus, as I’ve mentioned before, is the import process – and I have to say I’m getting really excited for this update. As it’s been progressing, it looks like I may be able to incorporate “direct connect” functionality where Prospects will automatically download the data from your bank (if supported). This is something that I was originally thinking would be in 2.0, but I was able to get it working with one bank and believe it may get into 1.3 … I’ll be posting more on this later. If I am able to get this into 1.3, I will need some serious help beta testing the many banks out there that support this. I will post details on how to help out with the beta if/when this occurs …
Thanks for reading and take care!
Mike

Wow am I excited for direct connect in 1.3. I can help you test with Wells Fargo if you need it. The lack of direct connect is actually why I passed on the MacUpdate promo price. Doh!

Hi Mike
Keep up the fantastic work, love the app.
As a budding forum admin you might like to kick user “hugobjzq” off the forum as his post dated today is just a porn link and not what we expect in this environment.

ukuser – I’ve been getting quite a few of these spam accounts lately and clean them up as soon as I see them … I might need to find a moderator or two in the future if this keeps up!

Wells Fargo will definitely need to be tested – I’ll post more details when I’m closer to beta testing – thanks for offering to help!

Mike
Just re-read my post of March 4 and think it’s slightly misleading. What I meant is I am a budding forum admin, not you! If people want to register for nefarious purposes there’s not much one can do if registration is open to all. Perhaps moderation is the answer.

Sounds like some good updates coming. Whilst I’m not concerned with the direct connect side of things (being UK based there isn’t anyone that supports it) I can understand why it’s a very important module for the USA market.
It would be really great to have some extra reports; maybe even just an ability to run the ‘cash report’ against selected categories rather than accounts
