Prospects 1.2.1 Released

January 25, 2009 – 8:54 pm
I just released Prospects 1.2.1 via the auto-update function within Prospects itself (available from the Prospects -> Check for Updates ... menu item).  I am working on putting together the final package and getting up on this site and some other download sites. It fixes many bugs and crashes that users were experiencing!  Next up will be 1.2.2.  I am aiming for a release in two weeks that will including the following: Bug fixes from 1.2.1 (hopefully this will be small in number) Preference to have ViewPoints show data across all accounts instead of only the current account Exporting accounts to QIF files Following that will be 1.3 - which will focus entirely on making the import process better and less error prone. I'll post an update on 1.2.2 in about a week ... thanks for reading! Mike PS - Even though I've disabled comments on the blog, you can always reach me directly at michael at motimotion ...

1.2 Crashes

January 24, 2009 – 10:55 pm
It was bound to happen with the amount of changes in this release...  even with beta testing, a few bugs slipping in causing crashes in the application.  I am actively working on these and hope to have an update out within a day or two to resolve the problems. In most cases, there are workarounds for the crashes.  Please see this Knowledge Base article for details: http://support.motimotion.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=125&p=445#p445 I apologize for any inconvenience this is causing anyone and hope to have the bugs fixed shortly! Thanks Mike

After months of delays ... 1.2 is finally here.  Check out the new Prospects page at http://www.motimotion.com/prospects with a link to the download. If you check it out and have any thoughts, feel free to drop me a line! I have a massive list of new features for upcoming releases and have a much better release plan to keep updates coming out on a consistent basis... Thank you everyone for your support! Mike

Almost there …

January 10, 2009 – 9:55 pm
Just a quick update - unfortunately, there were a few more bugs that had to be worked out so I distributed a beta this week and have one more coming this weekend.  In the meantime, I've been preparing the site for some changes and continue to update documentation. I'm doing everything I can to get this product out the door and ensure it is a solid release!

Final beta out the door?

December 31, 2008 – 1:28 pm
I just released what I hope is the final beta of Prospects 1.2.  It doesn't have all the features I wanted, but if I don't draw the line somewhere it will never get done.  Such is the life of programming! I've already lined up the majority of features for 1.3, which I will be working on feverishly in the coming weeks.  I am focusing on importing, transaction matching (i.e. preventing duplicates and being able to quickly merge duplicates if they end up getting created) and rules (just a few tweaks to enhance usability). Look for Prospects 1.2 to be out within the next week or so if things go smoothly. Happy New Year!! Mike

1.2 Progress…

December 28, 2008 – 12:50 pm
Hi everyone.  I have been quiet for a while and need to update you all on where things stand with Prospects 1.2.  I ran into some bugs in 1.2 that I did not expect.  They ended up taking quite a while to track down and fix.  The good news is I think I squashed most of them and am down to a list of about 6 small issues to fix / enhance before 1.2 is ready.  I also need to complete updating of the documentation.  Once this is complete, 1.2 will be ready to go barring any last-minute bugs found by the beta testers.  There is quite a bit of documentation to update this time around.  I hope to streamline the process in future updates so it does not hold up releases. Last night I completed some preliminary work on the support site to bring it up to speed for the ...

Prospects Beta Sign Up

October 26, 2008 – 3:20 pm
The first beta release is coming! If you are interested in participating in the beta testing, you can sign up at: http://www.motimotion.com/prospects/beta_signup.php Please note that this will be a "closed" beta - so I will be limiting the number of people participating. I am doing this to keep the feedback to a manageable level. Thanks, Mike

Schedule…

October 14, 2008 – 9:39 pm
It's looking like things are on track for an end of month beta release and full 1.2 release shortly thereafter (barring any major issues found in the beta testing).  Without going into a lot of details, I'm attaching a screenshot showing an updated main window.  I've tried to cleanup the appearance a bit. One of my favorite new features is the summary box at the bottom of the window that appears whenever you highlight more than one transaction in the window.  It provides quick and convenient calculations. My next update will include how to sign-up for the beta.  Until then, here's the screenshot (click the image for full size):

Fun with Cocoa …

October 7, 2008 – 5:09 am
The past few days I've had quite a bit of fun dealing with some of the "features" of Cocoa. It's a great framework, but it has quite a few inconsistencies which can make it a bear to work with. In any event, scheduled transactions are progressing nicely. I've attached a screenshot to indicate the type of functionality that will be available. Scheduled transactions are in a separate window (similiar to Categories, Payees and Rules). I've gone back and forth quite a bit on whether to incorporate them into the main window (single window interface) or keep them separate. I have a number of reasons for keeping them separate ... I'll get into that in another entry some day. This window could change a bit between now and the official release, but the overall concept is in place. Hope everyone is getting by with this global financial crisis...

Prospects 1.2 and upcoming releases

October 1, 2008 – 8:27 pm
Hello everyone... I've been getting a lot of questions concerning the status of version 1.2 and where things are headed.  This blog post will be concise and hopefully provide you with the information you are looking for.  If it does not, you can always email me directly or (michael at motimotion.com) or respond to this blog post. There are two primary reasons for the delay of version 1.2.  The first is that Prospects is currently a part-time venture for me.  I really wanted to go full-time with it during the past few months, but the numbers are not yet where they need to be to make this a reality.  The second is that I tried to bite off more than I could chew for the 1.2 release.  I tried to put too much into the release to really make it something spectacular, which ended up backfiring because of the amount of ...
